Case Description
I am a 32 year old male. At my youthful age of 16, I broke off the bottom half of one of my front teeth (the 2 front teeth). I am not positive if what I got at the dentist years ago is technically called a crown, cap, verneer, or what. Anyway, over the past few years the crown (what will call it) has begun to turn an ugly, brownish tint. So, I would like to make my tooth white again, and also I'm not sure that if this may also be a sign of the crown weakening. I have researched online different options and I understand that a crown cannot be bleached, but due to the fact it is discolored and potentially weakening, I read that crown repairs can be done or maybe even a new (whiter) crown put on. Please if possible adivse me on what I should do. I have a good insurance policy with MetLife and would like to take advantage of it if it is something that can be done under my plan (which does cover crowns and crown repair. Thank you for your time.

Are You This Patient?
When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Hi, Dr. Bob Deason here. A porcelain crown should not turn brown so I think what was done is a bonding procedure. The tooth could be re-bonded or a new porcelain crown could be done.To really give you a good evaluation I would need to see you and the x-rays. We do work with your insurance and could tell you what kind of coverage and out-pf-pocket expense you may be looking at.Dr. Bob Deason
